Do My Cast Iron Cooking Grates need to be Seasoned?

Do My Cast Iron Cooking Grates need to be Seasoned?

A frequently asked question from our fans is do they need to season their cast iron grates before grilling?

The answer is that because the cast iron grates on our newer grills have a porcelain enamel coating, they do not need to be seasoned! To prepare your grates, simply preheat the grill by turning all burners on high for about 10-15 minutes and then brush the grates clean. For this, we recommend using our stainless steel bristle brush for the best results! After you have prepped your grill, properly adjust your burners for your desired temperature and grill on!

I just bought a Genesis 310 with cast iron grills. They look just like the ones on my 19 year old Weber Gas Grill. How do I know if my new grills have the porcelain enamel coating and thus need no seasoning. Thanks Frank

Hi Frank! Congratulations on your new Genesis and welcome to the Weber family! Your new cast iron grates are coated in porcelain-enamel so you do not need to season them. Happy grilling! - Maggie
