Tomato Sandwich with Pesto and Mozzarella

Tomato  Sandwich With  Pesto And  Mozzarella 346X318
  • 2 slices of day-old bread of choice
  • 2 tbsp pesto
  • 1 mozzarella
  • 1 large tomato


The classic Italian filled sandwich.

In the kitchen:
  • Cut the bread into 1 cm slices. Spread with pesto. 
  • Cut thin slices of mozzarella. 
  • Wash the tomato and cut it into thin slices. Place this and the mozzarella slices on the bread. Close the sandwich.
At the barbecue:
  • Prepare the barbecue for direct heat – 185-200°C. Using a charcoal barbecue you need approx. 1/3 of a chimney starter with lit briquettes. 
  • Put the waffle and sandwich iron in the GBS grate and preheat for 5-8 minutes. 
  • Put the sandwich in the iron and close the iron firmly around it. Cook for approx. 5-10 minutes. 
  • Then flip the iron and cook for another 5-10 minutes. Check that the surface has a crisp crust. The bread can be brushed with a little oil to ensure a crisp crust.
