When you’ve got a crowd coming over for a cookout, you need a game plan to make sure everything gets to the table at the same time. This recipe focuses less on seasonings, marinades, and rubs, and more on the timing and process. Have a timer handy to make sure you stay organized.
- Prepare the grill for Direct Medium-High Heat cooking, 450°–500°F. Setting your grill on the higher side of the range will make sure things cook correctly. Preheat for at least 15 minutes and brush the grill grates clean.Prepare the grill for Direct Medium-High Heat cooking, 450°–500°F. - Prepare a tray with the toppings and condiments you want to serve with your meal so it’s ready to go when everything is cooked. It happens fast!
- Season the chicken breast and hamburgers with your favorite seasoning.
- Gather the chicken, burgers, hot dogs, buns and cheese and bring them to the grill. Have another platter ready for your cooked food.
- Add the chicken to one side of the grill. Close the lid and cook for 2 minutes.
- Add the burgers to the other side of the grill. Close the lid and cook the chicken and burgers for 4 minutes.
- Open the lid, flip the chicken and burgers, and add the hot dogs to the warming rack of the grill. Close the lid and cook everything for 4 more minutes.
- Open the lid, rotate the hot dogs, add the cheese to the hamburgers, close the lid and cook for 1 minute to melt the cheese.
- Open the lid, remove the burgers. Check the internal temperature of the chicken to make sure it’s 165°F, then remove the chicken.
- Reduce the heat on one side of the grill to low heat. Transfer the hot dogs to the hot side of the main cooking grates. Add the buns, cut-side down, to the cooler side of the main cooking grates. If you’d like to warm the hot dog buns, add them to the warming rack. Close the lid and cook for 1 minute.Move the coals over to one side of the grill so you have a low heat side.
