The lid locks so that you can carry your grill by the handle. The handle also lowers, doubling as a lid holder, to avoid placing the lid on the ground.

Rated 2 out of 5 by AlanLY from Vent location= LOW HEAT If you have had a Joe back in the day the vents were higher up from the bottom than what is on these newer models. Hard to get the grill got enough. Works great for low heat cooking, but if you want to cook a steak, this grill sucks.
