Transform Your Date Night in Less Than 5 Minutes of Grill Time!

For date nights at home, I typically grill. It’s easy, there’s less cleanup in the kitchen and we can enjoy the outdoors while the food is cooking. Until recently though, I kept the outdoor cooking to the main course and maybe an appetizer. Then I discovered a simple recipe that changed my date night routine forever!

Grilled pound cake and strawberries; It’s such a simple and outstanding way to end off the culinary adventure of date nights! Grilling the strawberries makes them sweeter and juicier. The caramelization of the sugars in the pound cake intensifies the flavor. After you top them with whipped cream, chocolate sauce, or whatever else you like, you will never look for another date night dessert again!

  1. Preheat your grill for 15 minutes and brush the cooking grates clean. You don’t want your dessert tasting like your dinner!
  2. Soak some wooden skewers in water for 30 minutes and thread the strawberries onto the skewers. Unsoaked skewers can catch fire and ruin your dessert!
  3. Set your grill to medium high heat (350°-400°F)  and grill the slices of pound cake and strawberries for 1 minute per side, turning once.
  4. Remove the strawberries and cake from the grill, top with chocolate syrup, whipped cream, or any other decadent topping and enjoy!

Hi there!
In the photo, it shows a grill basket with a variety of berries, the grilled pound cake, and skewered marshmallows. However, the recipe only talks about grilling the pound cake and skewered strawberries. Is there a recipe recommendation for the varied berry basket and marshmallows as well?
Thanks!

Hi Denise! Great question! The mixed berry basket in the photo is a great way to add more variety to this dessert. The berries would be cooked on medium-high heat as well for 1-3 minutes depending on how many berries you put in the basket. When using a grill basket for the berries, it is important to stir and shake the basket to keep the bottom berries from caramelizing too much and burning. Let me know if you have any more questions and remember to always leave room for dessert!
