Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple, inexpensive, low tech, useful gauge After owning Weber 22” grills for the last 45 years, and never having a kettle thermometer, I finally decided to get one as I’ve finally been using the vent to control the temperature, especially for low and slow cooking. I was looking for something simple, inexpensive, and not high tech. This little thing fit the bill! Placing the thermometer proved a bit challenging as advice on placement is all over the kettle! I finally decided on a location on the lid below the lid vent, trying to put it about 2” above the cooking grate. With the top of the bottom kettle at 2” above the grate, and the configuration of the lid as it is, and the size of the thermometer face, I ended up going about 2” above the bottom of the lid rim, right below the vent. Installation was easy. You can find how-to videos on how to do it, but it goes like this. Once you decide where to place it, put some painter’s or other tape over the spot. Using a nail punch, firmily punch a small dent into the spot to prevent the drill bit from dancing around on you. Start with a small drill bit to drill a pilot hole. Gradually increase the size of the drill bit until you finish with a 3/8” bit through which the thermometer fits. Insert the thermometer, tighten the nut for a snug fit. That’s it, although you might want to treat the hole with some heat resistent touch up paint to prevent rusting, something I haven’t done yet. Also, you might want a heat resistant gasket to prevent air leakage, something for which I’m still searching. But great, inexpensive way to get an idea of what your kettle temperature is. If you want something more precise, there are high tech units out there to accomplish that, but this thing fits my needs.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from wrong size I bought this in March- It doesn't fit. I agree with a prior review. There is not enough info to get the correct size. Weber could list the diameter ! If Dave's review, about one year ago, suggested the product listing needed improvement, I don't see it.
