Grocery List

Fresh Produce

  • 4 garlic cloves
  • 1 lemons
  • 1 yellow onions

Meat / Poultry / Seafood

  • 4 whole chicken legs, each 10 to 12 oz

Oil and Spices

  • 2 tbsp extra-virgin olive oil
  • .5 tsp freshly ground black pepper
  • .5 tsp granulated garlic
  • 2 tsp kosher salt
  • 2 tsp smoked paprika


  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 2 tbsp whole-grain mustard


  • .25 cups golden brown sugar
  • 4 fl oz lemon-lime carbonated beverage (not diet)

Special Equipment

  • 2 handfuls hickory wood chips



  • 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
  • ½ cup finely chopped yellow onion
  • 2 teaspoons minced garlic
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • ½ cup lemon-lime soda (not diet)
  • ¼ cup fresh lemon juice
  • ¼ cup packed golden brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons whole-grain mustard


  • 2 teaspoons smoked paprika
  • 2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • Finely grated zest of 1 lemon
  • ½ teaspoon granulated garlic
  • ½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

  • 4 whole chicken legs, 10 to 12 ounces each, cut into thighs and drumsticks


  1. Soak the wood chips in water for at least 30 minutes.

  2. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, cook the oil, onion, and garlic until golden, about 10 minutes, stirring often. Add the rest of the sauce ingredients and stir to combine. Bring the sauce to a simmer, reduce the heat to low, and cook until slightly thickened, 10 to 15 minutes, stirring often.

  3. In a small bowl mix the rub ingredients. Sprinkle the rub evenly all over the chicken pieces.

  4. Prepare the grill for direct and indirect cooking over medium heat (350° to 450°F).

  5. Brush the cooking grates clean. Grill the chicken, skin side down, over direct medium heat, with the lid closed as much as possible, until golden brown, 8 to 10 minutes, turning occasionally. Move the chicken pieces over indirect medium heat. Drain and add the wood chips to the charcoal or to the smoker box of a gas grill, following manufacturer’s instructions. Continue to grill the chicken, with the lid closed, for about 20 minutes. Then brush both sides with a thin layer of the sauce and cook until the juices run clear and the meat is no longer pink at the bone, about 15 minutes, occasionally turning and brushing with the sauce. Serve warm or at room temperature with the remaining sauce on the side.

Interesting assembly instructions---all pictures--a little hard for a reader- Had to buy mine not assembled because I needed to get this on a deck with a 26" door opening. Fairly easy assembly.

First cook was pork chops and they came out very done and tasty. We tend to want our pork well done and this Q Grill did very well. We are old Weber owners, who had gone over to the Dark Side (Holland). Sold my old grill on Craigs List in 1&1/2 Days

Looking forward to many good meals- I had looked at some Australian videos on the Weber site. They sure can get awesome Lamb Chops.

Was thinking of buying the Spirit Weber model till a Customer Service person (female) sold me on the Q features--don't have a name but thank you.

Great Grill

This is the best grill I ever bought. I now have new hours at work when both the wife and I get home later than we would like too so I just turn on the grill and am cooking right away. I like my other Weber grill but I cannot wait for the chars to get ready on the other one.
