Summit 670 great grill that likes propane!!!!! 2 fixes would make it perfect.

Huge grill. Easy to assemble. Makes anyone look like a professional chef with the sear station and rotisserie burner. Super versatile. It can and will hold under 200 degrees or crank it up and watch the needle peg to sear steaks. I love the grill. That being said....I've had it 2-3 months and have went through 80 plus lbs of propane. Not a typo. I grill everyday and do long cooks all the time.

complaints....2 of them
-the wheels are too small for this beast and are super cheap. They should fix this or a least give a upgrade option.
-smoker box. It works, hardly. All the smoke goes right out the side. Chips last 30minutes to an hour max and need to be filled. It should have a smoker chip tray in the CENTER.....possibly use the sear burner and make it adjustable.

Great Grill!!

My grill is 5 years old now, I use it almost every day. I also love the smoke box feature because I do alot of 8-12 hour slow cooking. The sear station is also awesome! This is my third Weber grill, all of my Weber grills have lasted a very long time. Weber warranty is rock solid and I would NEVER but another brand grill!

Weber quality is no longer there.

This is my second 6 burner Summit grill. I also have a few other Weber products, so I have been a big fan for many years. I am very disappointed in the quality of this grill. My last Summit was build stronger and better. This grill has a bunch of bells and whistles that are nice for now, but I question how long they will last (eg illuminated knobs). Here are some things that I have noticed:

1. Overall construction is a bit flimsy. My prior Summit had a lot of cast iron and was solid, heavy and lasted for years. This grill is a thin grade of stainless that makes it much less rigid. It is no longer built like a tank.

2. If it is left uncovered (top down), water will drain into the grease catch pan. This will then cause the mixture of water and grease to overflow and make a mess of the grill and your patio.

3. This grill has grease flare ups, much more often than my prior Summit. This rarely happened on my prior Summit, but it happens every few weeks with this grill.

4. The gas control knobs are no longer removable. I would take mine off of the old Summit every few weeks to soak them in bleach and water, so that they looked new again. The knobs on the new Summit are sealed and not removable because of the illumination feature (which is kind of useless).

5. The new set up for the rotisserie is flimsy and poorly engineered. Why would you put the left stand in the middle of the side table?

6. The folding side tables have been eliminated, which means that you have less room on both sides of the grill.

7. The locking wheels that are provided with the grill are plastic and not strong enough to keep the grill from moving. If you cover your grill, it will roll on a windy day, even if the wheels are locked.

The quality of the rurners and temperature control is still excellent., but Weber has taken too many shortcuts to reduce cost (and improve profits) on their grill. Unfortunately, this will probably be my last Weber gas grill. My guess is that they are not manufactured in China. I am sorry that I bought it.

WORTH THE INVESTMENT

I live in northeast Indiana and I've had my Summit 670 for 5 years now. I purchased it to replace two units; a gas grill and a charcoal grill/smoker that had turned into rust buckets in less than 3 years (and they weren't cheap grills!). I use my grill almost daily and often twice a day. I can honestly say it gets as much or more use than my kitchen range. My grill is on my patio year round, constantly exposed to the elements. Overall I have been very pleased with my purchase.

My initial reaction to the grill when I assembled it was that this thing is really well built with quality components and craftsmanship. Five years into ownership and I am still very pleased with this grill. No rust or corrosion issues and everything works as new. I'm also impressed that the cover lasted 5 years (I'll be replacing it this year). I've never had a cover for any of my other grills (not Weber) last more than 2.

When I first used the grill I had to really watch my cooking because this grill gets hot. There's plenty of heat and it's well distributed across the cooking surfaces. The sear station is fantastic and with 6 burners it's easy to cook in different heat "zones" for different foods.

The only problems I have had with my grill are that, on about the 5th attempt to use the rotisserie, I found the motor was "locked up" and would not turn. Not a catastrophe; I grilled without it and was please with the results. I contacted customer service about the problem and in three days received a replacement motor; no quibbling, no questions asked, and no returning the defective motor. Now that's customer service!

I also had some ignition problems with the rotisserie and left two burners. I found that the electrodes and arcing surfaces were oxidized or dirty and, after cleaning, worked just find. A little cleaning care and maintenance with this grill goes a long way.

This grill is easy to clean and maintain and a pleasure to use. Reading some of the other reviews I see complaints about the smoker box. There is definitely a learning curve to using this grill and I had to "tweak" some of my cooking processes to get the desired results. But I am very happy with the way this grill works and equally happy with the way my food turns out.

One of the common complaints is that the smoke all rolls out the right side of the grill. Of course it will, if the smoke is cooler than the ambient temperature under the grill hood. The heat will push the smoke out the right side of the grill where the smoker box is located without letting the smoke circulate. The solution is to get your smoke rolling first to flavor your food, then bring up the heat. Another process that works well is to grill your food at the desired temperature, then cut the temperature before the food is cooked. Finish cooking the food with the smoke. Your food will take on the smoke flavor and still be grilled to your liking.

Other things about the smoke box that I like is that you can cold smoke or hot smoke and, if you want some charcoal flavor, throw some charcoal briquettes in the box.

One shortcoming of the grill is the side burner. The burner is too small to handle things like fry pots or large kettles. It needs to be 15,000 btus instead of 12,000 btus.

If you're considering a Summit do some price shopping. I saved $600 on mine with free shipping to my home. Assembly is not difficult and within a couple hours you can be grilling. Make sure you have help to uncrate it because this thing is heavy!

TUFF LOVE

Hello, My name is Darryle , Bonney Lake WA
I recently received a Summit 670 grill for my birthday from my wife.
She spent this large amount of money on me because I always said that this grill was the best out there. And to make my 60 birthday extra special, she did this for me. I am a lucky guy.
I am a little disappointed in the quality of this grill. The first week the switch for the lights in the
knobs quit working. I did call your customer service and a new switch was sent promptly. Thank you for such service. BUT this past Saturday, I had a house full of people coming over to watch the playoff football games and enjoy a rotisserie a turkey on my grill. Much to my disappointment, when I had the bird all ready to go, the motor on the rotisserie did NOT work. I tried everything to get it to work. It would not. Finally I took the motor box apart and freed up the motor. It wouldn't turn. But I did make it work.
I am very disappointed in your quality. I had been bragging about such a fine grill to my friends.
But I was quite embarrassed when it failed to work. I took a lot of flack from my friends. It was all just joking at my embarrassment.
This quality is not acceptable for such a great name in grills. What next is not going to work on my grill. I would like to make this grill just go away, but I don't want to hurt my wifes feelings.
For the amount of money spent I could have purchased other high end grills. But I always thought WEBER was the best..

AWESOME

Have had various grills, charcoal , propane and now NG. Weber is one of the best. I now own the S670 NG. Absolutely fantastic grill. The most impressive feature is even cooking, even when windy. Easy to keep clean , heavy lid which I prefer. Once again fantastic grill. I would recommend this grill for anyone who entertains a little or a lot. You wont be disappointed.

Finally, I own the grill of my dreams!

I have had a few grills over the years, and I have always settled for some cheap grill that didn't have any of the bells and whistles. I have always wanted a Weber gas grill, and I finally pulled the trigger and bought the s-670! I am so pleased with all it can do without having to buy some third party accessorys. The construction is great, and I have no doubt this grill will last me years and years!

Ancillary part - concern

Hears well and the grates and rotisserie nice. Good gage of metals however, I have had the grill just a few weeks and with the second use one of the plastic knobs has already broken. The plastic shaft that connects the knob to the grill - which turns on the grill - has already broken. Not a comforting sign for an item that resides outside - even covered. We shall see. Will be requesting a replacement knob ASAP.

My third Summit. It's near perfect.

I just purchased my third weber grill. I sadly had to part with my first two due to relocation. Consider this when buying a built-in... I have used variations of this grill for years. It's near perfect. The Weber build quality and customer service are second to none.

If you're a griller you will love this grill. I use it 4-7 times a week and have cooked everything you can imagine from appetizers to entrees to deserts. I've found the temperature control to be very well mannered and it's so large you can accommodate any indirect heat cooking you need to do.

If you're a BBQ smoker kind of cook, don't think you'll have to compromise. Using a combination of the built in smoker and water trays I can get 95% of the flavor and texture profiles you would expect from any traditional smoker. What's even better, because the grill is so well mannered there is no need to use your traditional oven if you want to do something like the the Texas cheat.

I simply don't have the words to adequately convey the great experience I've had with this grill and the value I believe this it is!

Nice Grill not really a good value

Bought this a couple of years ago. The searing station is really the only thing that makes this stand out. The grill works just ok other than that. The "smoker" feature is a joke. Poor design at best. should have put it in the middle or the back of the grill. Everytime i have tried to add a little smoke flavor to food 95% of the smoke escapes out the right side of the grill. I would be surprised to see this review show up on their site. A little amusing that all you see is 5 stars..
