This grill does everything!

I bought my Summit Charcoal Grilling Center in May 2016, one month after it's release. The one thing I can say that accurately sums up this grill is that it combines all the abilities of all of Weber's previous products into one machine. Instead of buying a Weber Kettle and a Weber Smoky Mountain Cooker and a Weber Performer and a Weber Master Touch, etc. All you need to buy is just this one piece. It amazes me that Weber would even create such a product because now there is no need to ever have to buy any of their other grills in the future. This one does everything.

The Weber Summit Charcoal Grilling center has the BGE beat in at least 6 areas. It has the gas assist for lighting the charcoal - the BGE does not. It has the one touch cleaning system for collecting and removing the ash in the bottom when you're done cooking - the BGE does not. You can cool it down A LOT quicker if you get it too hot - the BGE cannot. It will never crack like the ceramic of a BGE. A BGE weighs about as much as a Volkswagon. The Weber Summit Charcoal Grill does not. Finally all the extras that you have to buy for a BGE (in addition to the Egg itself), these are all included on a Weber Summit Charcoal Grilling Center (Stand, wheels, side work table, etc.) In addition to all of this, Weber includes the Gourmet BBQ system cooking grate and charcoal basket holders plus a storage bin for the bag of charcoal plus a built in towel rack and storage drawer plus built in hooks for holding the cooking grate, the charcoal grate, the heat diffuser, cooking tools, etc. The BGE doesn't even come close to any of this and it cost more!

The absolute most important feature to me about this grill is the ability to move the charcoal grate to an upper and lower setting. This is something that a regular Weber kettle was never able to do in the past. THIS FEATURE OUGHT TO BE STANDARD ON ALL WEBER GRILLS IN THE FUTURE! Move the charcoal grate to the upper position and the hot charcoal is just inches away from the cooking grate. This is perfect for searing steak or any other direct cooking. Move the charcoal grate down to the lower setting and put the diffuser plate over the top of the charcoal and it now becomes a smoker. This grill will maintain a low and slow bbq temperature of 250 degrees for more than 2 full days with one single full load of charcoal.

There are only three drawbacks to the Weber Summit Charcoal grill that I can see: First, Weber does not offer a rotisserie for this grill. So if you want to rotisserie anything over charcoal, you will still need to keep a standard Weber kettle on hand. Kamado Joe offers a rotisserie for their ceramic cooker, so Weber should equally match this.

Second, when the charcoal grate is in the upper position, you cannot light the charcoal with the gas assist feature. Weber instructional videos claim that you can do this, saying that it only takes a little longer to light than when the charcoal grate is in the lower position, but this is not so. I have had unlit charcoal sitting on the charcoal grate in the upper position with the gas assist burner on full blast for 45 minutes straight. The flame could not reach the charcoal. The burner tube that comes out from the bottom of the bowl sits too far down for the flame to reach the charcoal sitting in the upper position. You have to use a charcoal chimney outside of the grill and pour the lit charcoal onto the charcoal grate when it's placed in the upper position. Weber needs to reconfigure the burner tube to have the tip of it turned upwards with the flame shooting out with the force of a blowtorch. This would solve the problem I believe.

Finally, no handle light is included with this grill. This I do not understand? With all the bells and whistles that Weber has packed into this grill, I don't understand why a handle light was never included as part of the original package? Weber includes a handle light on their Summit Gas grill, why don't they include one on their Summit Charcoal grill, especially given the original price for one of these units? The handle on both the Summit gas grill and Summit Charcoal grill is the same so a handle light will easily fit. I put 2 Weber handle lights on my Summit Charcoal grill handle.

Despite these few drawbacks, I can't say enough good things about this grill. My only real regret is that I paid $2299 for my Weber Charcoal Summit Grilling Center in May of 2016 and as of the writing of this review (March 19, 2017) Ace Hardware is now selling these same grills brand new for $1499 and many other outlets are selling them for $1999 - significantly less than what I paid. I would definitely grab one of these at these new lower prices. It is an excellent piece of grilling machinery and the only grill you will ever have to buy again - ever!

The only grill you need!!

I guess I'll start at the beginning. I've had a cheap Charbroil gas grill for a while and when I thought was gonna get serious about smoking and grilling i did some research and bought a Tragaer. That was 5 years ago. I will say I was less than impressed with the build quality of Tragaer. While at families house this summer, i got to cook on a BGE that my uncle has and was immediately hooked on the Kamado style cooker. My biggest gripe about Tragaer is they don't sear, regardless what they say.

Once the family and I got home, I immediately start looking at an Egg. While doing my research I stumbled across a comparison video on youtube between the Egg and the WSCGC. Found a place that had both cookers. Went and checked em out and with price of a XL egg, table and all the other stuff you have to buy to truly utilize the capabilities of the egg, my decision was fairly easy. There's a far better value with the summit. Build quality is great!

I just brought it home today. Got her fired up and made a Tri tip using indirect heat using lump charcoal and hickory. It was terrific! Gonna make ribs this week end so I will get to try out the diffuser plate. This grill is everything I expected it to be.

The grill of all grills?

I purchased my WSCGC on June 13th from Barnes Ace Harware in Ann Arbor MI. They as usual were very helpful in my grill purchase experience. In some areas I taught them what the Weber Summit Charcoal capabilities were. I had researched all the available information
on the SCGC.

In 2013 I purchased the WSM 22" from Barnes Ace to start my grilling/smoking experience's after alittle electric smoker before this. I liked the WSM alot and it was a great smoker except I wanted to go to the next level of grilling and smoking.

In 2015 I went to my Ace Hardware to research the somewhat new Kamado Joe Ceramic grill. I purchased it and then made a beautiful cedar grilling table with a granite top for it. I liked the Kamado Joe 18" alot but----it was very heavy and was only 18" wide. 18" was not wide enough for alot of items even with the grill expander.

And now, ---wow---What a grill! I keeps logs of all my cooks and like another reviewer mentioned there is a learning curve. I love the looks of my WSCGC and everything about it. Less charcoal, easy adjustable temperature's, cools of much faster than a ceramic grill, etc. etc..
I have purchased all the WSCG accessories plus some.

I have a Weber Genesis gas grill next to my WSCGC and use them simultaneously. The Genesis gas grill is 2 yrs old as I had to replace my Summit gas grill as the firebox was burned out.

I did have a problem with my cooking grate as it bowed down 3/8" to 1/2"in the center. Weber replaced it very quickly.

Finally my rating---- 6 stars on a 5 star rating.

The last grill you'll need...period.

I have a Weber summit gasser that is 9 years old as a backup and for "finishing" some cooks, but by far, my new Weber summit charcoal grilling Center (WSCGC) is my almost-daily choice.

Amazing ribs.com has the best review I have read, so go there to get the skinny on this rig. Bottom line.....the slow-cooking ability of a Kamado, the searing ability of a Weber kettle, a huge cooking surface, and so many options.....one machine to rule them all.

And the whole rig rolls around on my deck like its on ball-bearings.......so simple to move it to where you want it.

It's pretty. It's solid. The gas-fired charcoal igniter means no more chimneys. How great is that?

Don't believe the list price of $2,xxx.00. I paid around $1700 and there are discounts out there. But even at full retail, this is a Lexus-style BBQ that will last for the rest of your life. And 10 years from now, you will still love it, AND you will have become an expert in its use.

You get what you pay for.

The price stands up to the test!

I initially found out about this grill registering my new performer. The Weber rep slyly said, have you heard about our new Summit Charcoal. The answer was no. When he alarmed me of the price, it changed to heck no! But the consumer in me, thought "why would Weber make something that costs this much?" The answer is this, it out performs everything else on the market! I work long days, and love the taste of coals, so 20 minutes to get the grill ready delays my experience. This thing is ready to go in less than 10. And ready to SEAR! 500°. After searing you can get it down to 200° and some change in less than another 10 minutes. Egg lovers can never share that story. The taste is simply amazing, juicy and preferred temperature food in no time. The size allows you to accommodate different items. Not to mention the bigger grill (24 inch) still accommodates the GBS Items. Great way not to alienate your loyal client base. Hey if you can find a 24 inch kettle, with gas ignition, GBS capability, stainless steel table, charcoal storage, racks for your utensils, one touch clean up, and change degrees in less than 10 minutes for under 2 Grand. Go ahead. But you can't because there is NOTHING on the market like it. My wife gave me the best anniversary gift ever!

Just what I was looking for!

So, I have been an active outdoor cooker since 2003. I started with a Weber Genesis Silver B back then. In 2010 I took my cooking skills to the next level when I purchased an 18" WSM. In 2013 I started entering local BBQ contest (using just my 18" WSM, with some success). In 2014 I got a performer and it became my everyday grill.

Now, I just loved my Weber family of grills, but something was missing. Since 2012, I had been considering one of the brands of ceramic Kamodo style cookers. I really liked the idea of both their efficiencies and versatility to function as either a grill or a smoker. I never felt compelled, however, to make the purchase. They just fell short in two areas. First, they seemed both excessively heavy and fragile. Second, it seemed like functionally they were limited by a fixed location grill grate relative to charcoal grate, so I always questioned there ability to get a good sear on steaks, you know the crust that only comes from radiant heat. For this reason, I never purchased one and was content with my Weber family.

Enter the Weber Summit Charcoal Grill (WSCG as I call it). This was exactly what I was looking for! While still heavy ( I got the grill center, over 200lbs), it was increadably moble. Instead of ceramic, it was made from double walled, air insulated, steal, which is not only less fragile but has better heat transfer properties than ceramic. I say this because the heat transfer coefficient of air is one tenth that of ceramic, which means it's ten times better insulator, assuming same thickness. This makes the WSCG increadably efficient! On top of that air doesn't have the same thermal mass of ceramic, so when you change the temperature of the fire (hotter or cooler) the cooker reacts more quickly. The adjustable charcoal grate was the answer to my final reservation about the ceramic cookers. Add on top of that, the gass assist, and it made the WSCG an irresistible cooker that I just had to get.

Since having the WSCG for about a month, I couldn't be more pleased! First, it lived up to all the promises of performance. More importantly it lives up to my high expectations! I can cook low and slow with easy, and dial in cooking temperatures that maintain steady without effort. I can also sear a steak like never before! I have even cooked pizza with high indirect heat using the diffuser plate! The versatility of the WSCG is off the charts.

Thanks Weber, for making a product that met all my needs!

World Class Summit Charcoal Grill

I have had my Summit Grill for About a week. I went to go look at it with no intent to buy, but wanted to touch it. After 30 minutes of Reading some info on the grill, I decide to do something that would change my grilling experience forever. The Gentleman at the store almost didn't believe me when I said " I will take it and i have a Truck on its Way ". I am proud owner of 6 year old Weber Performer & WSM 22.5. I use my Performer 2 or 3 times a week and I love it. My WSM is more of Party Cooker and anytime I have people coming over I I smoke a Pork Butt, Ribs etc due the amount I can Cook at once. Both of the these Weber Products Work Great !! First Things First, Price $2000 Grand, Yes that is a lot but Compared to similar Grills You get more with Weber. Snap Jet System is something nobody offers with there Premium Grills. Second, One touch System is another Weber exclusive that makes Grilling so easy and Convenient. Third, Stainless Steel gives it high end look with Functionality. Fourth, Fuel Grate for Coals has 2 different Positions. These are some of the features that I believe set this Grill Apart. Also the WOW factor when someone sees it for first Time is a Special Moment. I grilled all week and it has work above my Expectations. I seem to not use as many coals as I did with my Performer which does save some money. I can start grilling faster due to the Snap jet & Rapid Fire Lid Damper. I smoked some Baby Back ribs on Sunday and this was my big game changer. I only use 2 scoops of charcoals for a 6 hour cook. The Ribs Were Amazing !!! The Summit held temp great through out the Cook and both vents were very responsive while adjusting temp during the cook. If you are Serious about a Grilling and or Smoking and if You are looking for an upgrade then this might be the Grill for you. This grill will change what & how you grill. Please email me any questions, But you will not regret this Purchase !!!! Thanks Weber For making such a Outstanding grill for us GRILLMASTERS.

Let me start by saying I love Weber Grills

I own 2 22.5s a 26.75 2 smokey Mountains plus a few more.

I have had a Big Green Egg and A Hasty Bake as other high end grills

The grill is so well thought out that each time I use it I am surprised by how versatile and how easy it is to use as well as great quality.

I am a very experienced griller/smoker as well as a KCBS Certified Master Judge and have judged the World Series of BBQ 4 times in Kansas City.

I know what good bbq should taste like.

I purchased this grill about 2 weeks ago (first person in Alabama to buy one I was told)

I have done all three types of cooking on it smoking indirect and direct.

Each cook came out great but the best to me was the brisket which for most people is the hardest thing to cook.

I was able to run the smoker for 9 hours with the recommended amount of charcoal and wood chunks.

I had enough fuel left over to smoke 2 pounds of pork belly.

I highly recommend this but like all new grills there is a slight learning curve.

Be patient and this grill will respond to all that you ask of it.

Summit® Charcoal Grilling Center

I purchased my Weber Summit Grilling Center on 14APR16. I am the first person to own one from San Antonio Texas to the border. I met my Weber Manufacturers Representative Mike Barrett of SHW Benchmark at BBQ Outfitters San Antonio to pick it up and take pictures of this work of art. Shawn the store main guy is awesome at BBQ Outfitters SA. Mike thanks for demonstrating everything and your kind utensils gift. Of course my dog Robby came along for approval. It is everything I could have imagined and more. Due to weather and family obligations I did not get to use it until last Saturday 23APR16. I have been a Weber BBQ guy since a child in the 60's. My mom actually taught me how to cook on one believe it or not! I have become well known for my abilities on a Weber creating competition level cooking and contest winning as well. I own 7 grills from the gold; silver; platinum; kettle; Performers and now the Summit Grilling Center King of Kings. I am a charcoal and pecan wood guy. The Performer when it came out answered my dreams for the last say ten years. I have a blue one years ago and last year a new copper one my wife bought me for my birthday. I have taught countless people to cook on a Weber over the last plus 40 years. I bought this Summit Grill Station to open a world of smoking that I never had before. That is my previous experiences with smoking were on grills that were wasteful of coals and wood and created the need for pre-cooking the meat elsewhere on my Performers and then smoking in the end and transferring the Pecan. Basically not that great and starting them in foil. Now get me I am a rib; steak; chicken etc. competition winner. But I have never been a Brisket Guy and always wanted to be. I also needed to start all long term meat in foil like my ribs. Those days are over4 my friends. I followed the instruction completely and cooked a 12 pound brisket Saturday to die for. I then did some of my award winning lemon chicken, and bacon wrapped shrimp with Serrano Chile peppers and of course doggy steaks and doggy bones for our three rescue dogs. You cannot believe how easy it was to control the temperature right at 250 smoking temperature and marvel over this grill. You cannot believe what an awesome grill this is until you go see it person. It is everything. Go check it out and email if you need pointers! So there you have it my Weber enthusiasts I have to go and make a Brisket sandwich!! Take care, Lee.
