Over 3 Years Later and Still I Exclaim - "WOW! WHAT A GRILL!"

I wrote a review of the Spirit E-310 after using it for only four months (See Sept 15, 2013 "WOW! What a Grill!"). A glowing review during the "honeymoon" stage of grill ownership is understandable particularly when a Weber grill is compared to poor quality department store grills that, incidentally, are engineered to rust through in 2-3 years. But when a glowing review continues after over three years of frequent use during all four seasons of the year, the grill must be truly exceptional. My Weber Spirit E-310 is absolutely the finest gas grill I have ever owned.
Everything I reported in my Sept 15, 2013 review continues to be true. Every feature of my grill is still in excellent working order. If you were to look at the interior of my grill, you would see the inevitable discoloration, evidence that it has been used heavily for three years. Yet, the burners and connecting tubes show no sign of deterioration. The flavor bars are still rock solid. They sit on a solid cast aluminum body, not on flimsy rust prone steel holders. Unlike department store grills I have owned and hauled to the landfill, the Weber has a small frame inside the cover that, when the cover is closed, blocks wind making flame blow-outs much less common. The grates, those wonderful cast iron grates, have only improved; a little spray of oil and they are nonstick. You would also see that I take care of my grill, as recommended by Weber, because I believe it when the famous Food Network chef, Alton Brown, says that a clean grill cooks best. The bottom of a Weber grill is a convenient, slide out drippings tray, which also shows no sign of deterioration. I remove mine for a quick cleaning after a few uses, after particularly messy foods like spare ribs, or after each use of the rotisserie. The cast iron grates get brushed after every use. I give the entire grill a thorough cleaning, inside and out, 3-4 times a year. If you were to see the exterior, you might think it was a new grill. With a little simple maintenance, this grill will last for many more years. If it were a department store model, I would be shopping for a new grill about now.
The only thing I would change on my grill would be to make the utensil hooks on the ends of the tables larger or deeper.
I also made a very positive review of the Weber rotisserie accessory (Sept 22, 2013) but mention it here only to highlight the exceptional customer service you can expect from Weber. It is the only thing I have had to call them about. After purchasing the rotisserie I did not actually use it for about three months and when I did the motor did not work. I emailed Weber customer service expecting to get a run around from someone. With no questions asked, a new motor was delivered to my door in two or three days. I could not have asked for better customer service. It is comforting to know that Weber really stands behind their products. If you're sick and tired of replacing your gas grill every 2-3 years, do yourself a big favor -- buy a Weber!

Works great; confusing instructions and labels on knobs

My previous gas grill was portable so I'm still getting used to the much larger cooking surface and multiple burners. Heat is more even than before, and much easier to control.

My main issue with this grill is the confusing instructions and labels on the burner knobs. I know they were trying to make it multi-lingual but the symbols they use for what is High, Medium, and Low heat are both hard to read and confusing. They are not explained in the manual at all. Thus, I thought "Low" was "High" for quite a while after I got it, and thought this was a very weak grill! Since you can't see the flames, the labels on the knobs are important. Once I figured this out things cooked MUCH faster.

Great grill, just keep the lid down and the burnners less than medium and you will see 400 degrees for grilling. My first steak a porterhouse seemed better than resturant quality.

Best gas grill ever.

I said "Best GAS grill..."...you can't beat the Performer kettle grill (which I had for a glorious 14 years before retiring it) for charcoal cooking, but if ease of use becomes an issue...if it stops being so much of a hobby as it is a normal every day way of cooking...then the Spirit 310 (or certainly it's big brother, the Genesis 310) is an incredible answer.

Yes, I've only had it for about two weeks, but I've used the bejeebus out of it and already discovered that A) it will hold temps like a champ, and B) you can get those steady temps down to 225 if you know what you're doing (proper use of a water pan), and up to 700 degrees (NOT RECOMMENDED...stop at 600, you'll do GREAT!) for a pizza oven if you want.

Smoking? YOU BETCHA! Just learn how to control the temps, learn how to make a proper smoke box for gas grills, research it a bit on youtube, it's all out there.

Don't cheap out for the extra hundred bucks on the 210 version...you'll likely regret it, it greatly limits your range of cooking, smoking is pretty much a non-starter, much harder to hit a sweet spot for temps with two burners...go for the 3 burner model.

You absolutely will NOT regret going with the 3 burner, but you MIGHT regret going with the 2 burner...is that worth $100 bucks?

Why would you buy a different grill?

Stop at the store to get a grill and you will find more grill options that one could ever conceive of.

If you want something cheap, keep walking past the Webers. You will find countless cheaper options.

Want something with 425 burners, a satellite dish, and a built in refrigerator because you want to show off to your friends. This isn't your grill either.

Want a grill that will last years and years and when it does need some TLC there will be parts for it? Keep looking at this great Spirit 310. My last Spirit lasted 8 years, uncovered!

Want a great that will cook up some delicious food? Keep looking at the awesome Spirit 310. 2 side shelves gives you plenty of space to park the buns and cheese while the burgers cook. The 3 burners put out plenty of heat to keep up with a hungry crowd, and also give you the flexibility to put on your chef hat and try some fancy cooking.

Great quality, great long term value, that is why I just bought my second Weber Spirit and would encourage you to do the same!

A pretty good grill overall

I have had my grill for a little over a year now and I am still pleased with it. I live in Canada and the grill sits out in the elements with only a cover to protect it. The only noticeable sign of wear and tear is that the side tables and front control face have a little surface rust appearing. This is Weber's "economy" line of grills so I am not expecting it to last like my other family members Weber Genesis has. My Spirit grill still performs well and works as it did when brand new. As for the front cover that many others have negatively commented on including myself a year ago in my first review on this website( Good grill but where is my steel door?) it has held up okay and I think it will last the life of the grill if handled with care.I would recommend buying a good waterproof cover for this or any grill that will be out in the weather. On a side note, I have purchased many of Weber's accessories that they offer including a cover, utensils, mitts etc and have found them to be very disappointing from a quality standpoint. For example, my cover which cost upwards of $100.00 CAD leaked and self destructed after 6 months. Another example is the heat mitts I purchased really don't keep my hands from burning any better than the big box store cheap ones I owned previously. Weber is charging a premium for their accessories and the quality is just not there in my opinion. To be fair, Weber did send me a new "updated" cover for free when I called them to complain.I will keep posting an update on a yearly basis to give you a good idea of what to expect from this product over the years.

Assembly was a breeze

My review is more about the assembly of the grill. I assembled the grill yesterday in about 2 hours, and that includes the time it took to shoot an assembly video of the entire process. You can see the video at https://youtu.be/rumK3mTjSWo.

First, the instructions were perhaps the clearest, best written instructions I have seen on any product. The hardware is in labeled bags to make finding the right screw or nut easy to find. There were a couple of washers missing from my hardware bag, but I was able to easily replace them with some I had in my shop. Otherwise, all the hardware was included and very high quality.

One other interesting fact, the door of my grill was severely dented (as you will see in the video). This was surprising because I could find NO damage to the shipping box. We called Weber's 800 number and were informed that a new door is being shipped out and should arrive in a week. Stuff happens, so it is nice to know that Weber stands behind their product and that we were actually able to get in touch with a live person to handle the issue.

After I have an opportunity to cook on the grill (later today) I will post another review, or update this one. For now, I am very impressed with the quality of the construction of the grill and can't wait to fire it up!

Beware of Burns if you are short

I love to grill. I am a 5'3" person. This is the first time in my 30 years of grilling that I have burned myself severely. This is because when the Spirit lid is opened all the way if you are short the handle is hard to reach which. I misjudged where the handle should be normalizing causing me to touched the hot metal. Causing me to go to the burn center after my visit to the ER. I think this is a bad design and can be improved.
I love the grill except for the lid. It cooks evenly, no flare ups.

Gas tank

The gas tank to the E-310 sits on the ground, what a pain when you move it around.
