Love this Smoker

It a good well design and sturdy too. I bought it when we had a snow storm here in Michigan this year, and set it up outside on the patio, where it still sits, we had high winds and nasty snow and it still stands there solid like a rock. Smoked some pork butt on it and 10 hours later, wasn't the tastiest since i substituted some ingredients but was really looked good, perfect smoke ring and tender. Haven't been smoking on it a lot since of school and work, but going to bust out this weekend and trying a rib recipe, and fine tune my skills some more. but over all this is a good smoker for beginners, because of it easy use, and well built design and the price is pretty good as well, but it worth every pennie.

Should have gotten this first.

I've had three smokers now, and I if I got this one first I wouldn't have had to get the other two.
My first smoker was a side burner that was a pain to maintain a constant temperature, and it needed fussed with the whole time.
My second smoker was an electric, and it did OK, all the way up to the day it shorted out and ruined a 8 pound pork butt.
Third time is a charm. My Wife and Daughter In Law got this for my birthday, and from the start it's been a joy.
I read a lot about how to use the Weber Smokey Mountain before I used it, and was a little skeptical of how easy everyone said it is to use.
Well my first cook was a pork butt, and I was pleasantly pleased at how easy it was to keep the smoker at 250 for the 12 hours it took to get the pork to 195 degrees.
Now the more I use it the easier it gets. Not saying it's a fire and forget, but it's darn close.
I have the ash shovel and 21" Three-Sided Grill Brush, so after cooking cleanup is a snap.
I use water in the water pan, and I haven't foiled it yet, and even that isn't hard to clean.

Excellent Customer Service

Purchased the 18.5" smoker for my husband as a gift. When it arrived we noticed the lid was damaged in shipping and would not fit the grill correctly. My husband was able to get a representative on the phone immediately (on a Sunday night) to explain the situation and within two days we have received a new lid. Very professional and accommodating.

Well built & easy

It worked the first time with no fuss. However, for a very long smoke I found that starting charcoal for refueling works much better than just adding briquets. I use a chimney starter and get the coals burning first. I use a length of steel stud as a chute and slide the burning coals right in. For those not familiar, steel stud is a "U" shaped sheet metal product that replaces wood studs in commercial construction, as it does not burn . Any sturdy metal that can be formed into a trough shape will do. Wear good gloves as everything is very hot! No more worries about whether the fire is too far gone to start more briquets.

Best ribs ever!

For years I have been using the original Weber grill and using indirect heat to cook my ribs. This past week I got my Smokey and could not wait to get it dirty. After searching the web for recipes a few days I used the 3-2-1 method and could not believe how good the ribs turned out. I cooked 2 big slabs of St Louis style ribs and after the two hour part in foil with the apple juice and a little brown sugar they were starting to come apart. After the last hour with the sauce on them I tasted the best ribs I had ever made and put in my mouth. Bring on the Boston Butt and a Briskett!

The one to have

If you really want to start smoking meats and you don't really want to spend a $1000 on a professional smoker the Smokey Mountain Cooker won't let you down. It is easy to use, it will hold temperatures for hours and you can fit a ton of meat on it.

Best Smoker for the Money

I purchased the predecessor to this model years ago and have been happy with my results ever since. The model I own actually doesn't have the built in thermometer but is essentially the same Smoker. I have been very successful in smoking birds, roasts, lamb, etc. on my Weber. The thermometer is a great idea for slow cooking due to the nature of this style of cooking. It is helpful to know how your fire is doing in regards to heat intensity and longevity. A person could easily spend thousands of dollars on a good Smoker but this is a great Smoker for no where near that price point. Awesome Job Weber!
