the original

I have the first Performer with ignition. I've had it for 17 years, love it still going strong. I had to replace the vents and ash catcher. I have grilled everything from hotdogs to prime ribs. This is one of the best American made products out there.

Replaced my Performer!

Finally replaced my original performer grill I have had for 22 years. The ash catcher hanger gave out a few years ago so it was making a mess on the deck. I have had to replace the one touch system a few times but other than that it was still cooking. No one can say that Weber grills do not hold up the the weather. I also have a gas grill that is around 15 years old and still solid.

Unexpected Quality & "Made in the USA"

Over 30 years ago we enjoyed our Weber charcoal grill; but we switched to propane because of the convenience, especialy at times when at 9,000 ft there was 6”-12” of snow on the BBQ. So I have now switched back to a Weber charcoal grill but with all the bells and whistles (propane starting).
I ordered the BBQ from Home Depot and when I picked it up an employee loaded the box into the Outback. When I got home, I discovered that UPS had crisscrossed the box with tape that the warned that box was heavy. I wrestled the box out of the car and on to a hand truck. I got a neighbor boy to help tug the box on the hand truck up a slight incline across the grass in the side yard. I was beginning to suspected that maybe this was a quality item and maybe it was “Made in the USA”. As I unpacked the parts, I realized that they where heavy such as the thick guage steel for the side table, no plastic or tinny metal here!
How refreshing to buy something that was not of questionable quality and not made in China, but “Made in the USA’.

Absolutely the BEST value for quality, durability, & cooking results.

I purchased this grill on the day I graduated high school, I am now 37. I have used it every week, multiple times and it has lived its entire life outside throughout tough Minnesota winters. The old girl is showing a little wear and tear, but who wouldn't after almost 20 years of service and complete exposure to extreme elements?

This grill still performs at a very high level and will continue to do so for years to come.

Thank you Weber for creating a product that will forever be known in my family as "Dad's Grill"!

Fantastic first meal

1. Easy assembly (just make sure you have the tools on-hand shown in the parts list)
2. Very solid construction
3. Easy fast light
4. Retains heat like a SOB

I recently had my biological family over for a new house introduction and decided to cook everyone up some burgers/hotdogs on my rinky-dink 30 dollar charcoal tailgater. 9 people in all - it was doable, but an experience in frustration. The thing kept snuffing out, got cold fast, and generally just wasn't up to the task. I managed to pull it off, but just barely. The following weekend, my gf and I decided that we would start saving 50 bucks per pay period each so that in 2 months, we'd have a grill that could adequately handle what I wanted to do on it.

So later that evening we ran out and bought the grill =D And in a fervor that finished around 1am, I finally had it put together. We had friends coming over the next day at noon and I was to grill us up something worth the christening moment. Check out youtube, meatball stuffed onions by bbqpitboys for its first-ever (definitely not last) cook experience! Anyway, I got the deluxe model with the gas lighter, and following the directions to a T. I pressed the ignition button and expected to hear a little tick-tick-tick-tick sparky sound, but what I got was a CLACK-CLACK-FWOOOSHHH!!!! Awesomeness. Just be sure not to crank that gas knob all the way open when igniting, open it about a 3rd and THEN push the button and open it up after it's lit, hah...

This thing gets up to heat FAST before the coals are even half ready, and it'll hold that heat without even adding extra coals for a full 2 hr indirect heat cook. That includes opening it a couple times, impressive. And this thing is solid. There are other brands that may be cheaper in cost, but you go shake the floor models a bit and see which ones rattle. This one doesn't. It's basically 100 lbs in the box, you're not dealing with cheap stuff, here.

Very worthwhile purchase!

Why did I wait so long??!!

I've been grilling for many years, usually two or three times a week. I've always had inexpensive grills, because I thought, like many other reviews I've read, that I could buy two or three new grills for the price of a Weber. I was wrong. The Touch and Go system is the best! A brilliant idea. Don't know why nobody thought of it a long time ago. I've always used chimneys to start charcoal, and being able to start it on the grill is great. I can be cooking in 15 - 20 minutes. The cleaning system works great too. The quality is top notch, and I really enjoy using our new grill. And, I was able to get the copper colored kettle, so it looks as good as it cooks!

Will never own anything other than a Weber

I've had the performer for awhile and it's still looks great and works perfectly. I had two things go wrong, keep in mind this was years after I purchased it. One of the locking wheels tab broke off, I could of continued to use it with no issues but I like everything to work. I called customer service and they took care of it, webers customer service is second to none. Second, the charcoal starter wasn't giving out the same flame as new, so I cleaned it out really well and now it works like it did when I first got it(no parts needed). Built to last is an understatement. Finally, the features on the performer are awesome, the attached table, charcoal igniter, charcoal bin, storage rack, utensil hooks, etc.... You will not be disappointed!

I do not buy things based off of brand name or am dedicated to any company, except Weber. I love charcoal when grilling except when camping, so my next purchase will be the weber Q. I have no doubt I will be just as satisfied and impressed with it, and like the performer I'll be saying to myself "why didn't I buy this a long time ago?"

This grill is SUPER!

I bought this grill as a replacement for a low end gas grill that bit the dust. I have had Weber Kettles in the past but went to a gas grill to eliminate the issue of getting the charcoal lit. This grill is the best of both worlds. It lights the charcoal itself and it is an honest to goodness Weber Kettle. We cooked the turkey on it for Thanksgiving and nothing could have been easier. I am getting one for my brother, too. I fully recommend this grill to anyone who wants to use charcoal.

weber has always been king!!!

I have owned Weber charcoal grills since I was 18 years old and now I am 45. I have never witnessed a grill that pretty much holds it temp in extreme weather, I smoked a center cut pork tenderloin and it was 45 degrees outside and my 22.5 in performer always holds the line on temperature, the quality is unmatched with any other brand I still own my first 22.5 Kettle and it still does a great job. I have all Weber accessories and gadgets. I would tell anyone who buys these quality grills to invest in a cover to keep them beautiful and clean. My co worker wanted to purchase a gas grill and I recommended Weber and he said they are pricey and I told him you get what you pay for and he has had his Genesis for thirteen years and he purchased the cover.

Always Bought Cheap Grills...What's the Difference

We are adverse to name brands. It is not that we won't buy quality, but so many name brands are not quality. So when I looked at Weber charcoal grills at $300 bucks or the $50 big store special I figure I can buy 6 grills compared to one. They all have metal, grate and handles, so what is the difference? We were wrong.

This is our first Weber. We wanted Charcoal, and we decided to go with this grill. Why the platinum instead of the gold if we are money conscience? I wanted the quick propane starter. Was it worth the extra $50? You betcha'. My wife was skeptical, but she loves it so very much. The ease of a gas grill with the smokey flavor of charcoal.

The craftsmanship and engineering of this grill makes all the difference. We liked the meat we cooked on the cheap grills, but it was nothing all that special. Now? Wow! I cannot begin to tell you how much more we enjoy our grilled meats now. The difference is so great that we now grill at least 3 times a week.

Quality is awesome, you can see that with the store display. Cooking performance is better than the quality. I obviously do not know how durable the product will be as it is new, but it looks like it will last more than a decade as long as I care for it by covering it from the elements. As I look at it it will far outlast 6 cheap grills from the store so even if the grilling was not so much better it would still be a better value.

Don't be like me. Get a Weber first and find out why people love to grill. I just now found out after 50 years.

This grill is a dream come true!

At first all I wanted was a basic Weber One-Touch Kettle grill. Having bought a new house, my girlfriend felt I needed something a little nicer and more deserving of the occasion. Still I wanted a simple kettle grill but her other argument was very valid; no prep area or table with a One-Touch. Walking through the store we came across the Performer Platinum and we both instantly fell in love. I get the simplicity and practicality of the One-Touch with an additional prep table! Before that day I didn't even know Weber made these gems. On top of that, we got this platinum with the starter system and I must say it comes in handy.

So far the Grill is a dream come true. I can light the burner and get my briquettes hot in 15 to 20 minutes regardless of wind conditions. I have cooked burgers, brats, hotdogs, steaks, and a 5lb chicken. The flavor is amazing and getting better with every use. There is no comparison to a Weber and I highly recommend this grill to everyone!

I plan to enjoy this grill for many years to come. I also plan to cook my Thanksgiving turkey on this bad boy!

Turned Us Into Everyday Grillers

We absolutely love this grill. We went from being occasional grillers to using our grill nearly every day. It is easy to ignite the coals, heats up fast, and cooks quickly and evenly. Instructions are easy to follow, and when you follow them the food turns out great EVERY TIME! Perfect size, convenient features, fits everything you want to cook. Weber thought of every detail when they were designing this. Turned us in to absolute fanatics!

Just got my weber performer

What a stroke of luck I received last weekend. A guy decided he did not like charcoal grills and parted with his weber performer top of the line model for 100. For that, I received the grill, full propane tank and gas lines. What a steal, all I did was replace the grills, handle, and some screws. Cleaned it up and now I have a world class charcoal kettle grill to match my weber genesis silver b. To say it is an amazing grill is an understatement. I am looking forward to cooking with charcoal and gas now. Weber products are the best And that is why I own three of them. They age perfectly and always work and the service and warranty is world class. Thanks weber for being one of a handful of companies they get it.

Top notch performance (would you expect anything less?)

I received this grill 7 years ago as a Christmas gift from my fiancé (now my wife). I live in NE Ohio where the weather is very extreme and unpredictable, although still grill and barbecue year round. The Performer has withstood the test of time and brutal winter and the heat of summer without signs of excessive wear and tear.

For our anniversary my wife bought me a Weber wok, griddle, and gourmet cooking grate. I haven't used the griddle as much as I have used the wok, although it has come in handy when I've needed it. Nothing beats this wok as it heats up and holds the heat better than my carbon steel wok on the stove.

I have been able to cook many different foods on the Performer that I wasn't able to on my wife's Char Br*il grill. I have barbecued leg of lamb several times, roast turkey (yes, for Thanksgiving!) and prime rib, smoked beef brisket, made coal fired pizzas (use a separate set of baskets for this as the coal will contaminate), and baked cakes and brownies.

I don't have many accessories that Weber sells and have gotten along fine without them. Nothing against them, they're probably quite useful and I'm certain that I would probably use them if I had them. I just don't have the storage space.

Great Grill

This grill provides the convenience of a gas grill with the taste and performance of a quality charcoal grill. It's so easy to light and to start that it quickly becomes the grill of choice over gas. I just purchased the Genesis E-330 series and I also now purchased the Performer Platinum because I like the taste of charcoal. I now have both for all my grilling needs. I put both grills together and both were so easy and quick to assemble. I just love these grills!!!!

Awesome performance

I have used barrel type grills and large smokers happily for many years, but when it cam time to replace my 10 year old barrel cooker I decided to go with the performer platinum from Weber. Best decision ever; I can't believe the years wasted cooking on anything else. It heats evenly, is easy to adjust, and the gas lighting system is a god send. From indirect smoking slow and low to searing steaks this grill does it all and looks good doing it. I'm a Weber fan for life!

All I need in 1 package

2 years ago I came across a 'Performer' given to me. That is when my life took a turn.
I (then) was a beginning griller and after a little over a year I was fully in love with my grill. Then I saw the new Performer with the new coal lighting feature and it was time for a new grill. The coal lighter is a BIG help and makes a great difference. I smoke and charbroil my food daily and living in San Diego the weather permits me to but even on the 2 or so rainy days we get a year it works just as well.
I just learned (after watching the video) that the large black bin on the front is not a trash can but a coal storage box which I'll fill up today. The cutting board is perfectly sized and the bottom rack is great for storage.
I post most of what I cook to my friends on FaceBook and have a small loyal fan base. Which makes me soo proud.
I highly recommend this grill it is PERFECT! The only complaint I have is that there is no cubby hole to store my electronic meat thermometer.
Happy Grilling....................JOE I

Best Grill I have ever owned!

I got my grill right before Memorial day. I had never cooked ribs before but with this grill, and the charcoal boxes it was a breeze! I only had to use one charcoal box to keep my grill at the optimum temp. of 250 degrees for six hours for my baby back ribs. I use the charcoal boxes for chicken and it does a great job. My chicken comes out perfect every time. The gas ignition for the charcoal is just too fab!
This grill is well built and easy to use and clean.
My son in law has a regular Weber grill that he has had for years, and it's hard to believe it's as old as it is.
Some reviews say the performer is expensive, but for a product that will probably last the rest of my life it is well worth the price.

Awesome grill, even better customer service.

Absolutely love this grill! I've owned many grills over the past 18 years and I must say that this is by far the best ever!! There is one negative, when I received the grill there was some porcelain-enamel missing from the One Touch Cleaning System scraping it off the bottom of the bowl. I sent an e-mail to customer service and in less than a hour I had a telephone chat with a rep and an e-mail confirmation that a new bowl was being sent to me! I wasn't even looking to get a new bowl just want them to be aware of the manufacturing defect! I so LOVE Weber!!!!!

Love this Platinum Performer Charcoal Grill

I have owned a Weber 1100 LP Gas Grill since 1995 and still love it. However, a couple weekends ago I was a friends home and we grilled out on his Weber charcoal grill. I couldn't believe how great the food was cooked over charcoal instead of gas.

The reason I bought the Weber gas grill back in 1995 was that I didn't want to fool around with lighter fluid and manually lighting the grill. However, this Weber Platinum Performer Charcoal grill has a gas starter to light the charcoal. What a great idea! It works great and the food tastes so much better cooked over charcoal.

The only thing about the grill I think isn't worthwhile is the timer. It is just a basic one, and can only be set for 99 minutes. That isn't enough time for things like turkey.

Everything else is great. I really like the one touch ash clean up with the catch pan to catch the ashes. I also like the charcoal storage bin, handy accessory. And having a thermometer on the lid is a great help in order to control temperatures.

My father owned a Weber charcoal grill back in the late 70's. I think it may have been a little bit more heavy duty, but was pretty basic. I hope my new grill lasts as long as my Weber Gas grill. I still plan to use the gas grill for certain kinds of cooking where the charcoal flavoring isn't as important.
