I love my weber kettle!

I love this grill so much it makes me wanna buy the 26 in! I use it at least twice a week, whether its a slow cook or something quick and easy like burgers. That's what I love about it. Works great for anything once you get use to the temperature of the grill. A chimney full of coals last me well over 4 hours. The hinged grates and thermometer Help me out a lot when I'm smoking. That's also on my wish list.... the smokey mountain!

Weber family since the early 1970s

My dad bought a Weber grill for our family cabin in the early 1970s. We used it every meal for the 5 times we went up on weekends, and a full month every other summer. Always served us well :-).

I have had one of the newer, small Q gas grills, as well as a 25 year old rectangular charcoal travel grill we used every dirt bike camping trip, but decided we needed a traditional round kettle for home as the Q and charcoal traveling grills were sometimes a little too small for more than four people, and difficult to slow cook larger pieces. I also didn't want to spend big bucks on a big gas one, and like charcoal better anyway.

Before I could buy one, someone up the street left one out for the taking. It was an basic, pre-One Touch "starter" model, but it looked like it'd only been used once :-). After using it for a few years, I took it up to our cabin to replace our original grill that finally bit the dust. Now I needed another one for home...

I decided to take the plunge over the 4th of July (what better time?) on a Weber Gold One Touch (now called the "Premium") for a number of reasons.

First was the One Touch system itself...so much easier to get the ashes out of the bottom than with the old three round vent style.

Second, was the ash catcher bin. I hated the wind blowing hot ashes out of our older one, or having to carefully pull out the aluminum "Frisbee" ash tray without spilling it. Gotta say, the new "premium" ash catcher is the only way to go! It's also nice to have the integration of the temp "control" slider arm for the lower vents.

Third, the built in lid thermometer. The first thing we planned to cook on the new grill were ribs, which is "low and slow". Having the built in thermometer meant I didn't have to keep poking my instant read thermometer through one of the vent holes...just glance at the nice, big, easy to read dial :-).

Fourth, the lower end models only have one handle on the kettle's sides. Having one handle is OK for moving it around on the patio, but if you need to pick it up, it's awkward. Two handles are much better. The Gold model also seems heavier than the other 22" grill, so you REALLY need two handles to pick it up ;-).

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving, and guess how we're (or I should say I) cooking the turkey? That's right - my Weber...it's in the fridge brining away till tomorrow ;-). Now all I need to pick up are the Applewood chips.

I love my Weber One Touch

I've had my current Weber One Touch Gold 22.5" grill for seven years now. It had survived many summer cookouts, as well as the brutal New England winters. However, it unfortunately was the victim of a rouge snowblower, and it took a devastating hit to the lid this past winter. I have the lovely blue color that was available at one time, and I can't replace the lid with a matching one. Mine did not have a thermometer in the lid or the built in hooks on the handles as the newer model, either. So, I see this as an opportunity to upgrade to the Performer Platinum!

Weber makes an excellent product, and this kettle grill has performed above my expectations. You can apply a variety of cooking methods (such as direct and in-direct heat cooking). I also have the kettle rotisserie attachment and have made some of the best chicken and turkey I've ever tasted. From simple grilling staples like dogs and burgers to more advanced cooking and delicate cooking (like fish), this grill makes grilling fun and easy for all skill levels. You do not feel intimidated by this grill.

I do recommend buying a chimney starter for the kettle grill to help with more even lighting of your charcoal.

While this grill served me well, it's going out of service through no fault of its own. If it hadn't been damaged by an accident, I'm sure I'd be cooking on it for another seven years or more.

Outstanding smoker and grilling grill

The Weber is a good grill for direct grilling but it has it limits as it cannot reduce heat without prior planning. Stoke up a Weber chimney and cook some steaks they will be great.. Chicken needs to be offset on a cooler side after browning on the hot coals.

No substitute.

I have been using the Weber Charcoal grill for over 20 yrs. I just purchased a new One Touch Gold and it is the best grill so far. I prefer charcoal to gas and the options I can use for indirect cooking. I would put my ribs up against any owner of a Big Green Egg anytime.

the best grill i have ever owned

I have always been a fan of gas grill due the conveniences of quick start up time, but recently I have been using my portable tail gate charcoal grill for sausages and steaks. I can not bring myself to firing up the gas grill again even to cook hotdogs. I have been reading reviews on all types of charcoal grill and I have read nothing but good things about Weber, so this weekend I made a trip to Lowes. I also invested in a chimney starter to kick things up a notch. I have started things off right by marinating some chicken for lunch today and it was a success. Everyone kept talking about how moist and delicious it was so the only thing I have left to do is to push the gas grill to the curb.
so for anyone looking at purchasing a charcoal grill WEBER is the only way to go unless you are going to dig deep and buy a green egg. Happy grilling

Great Grill

Love this grill. Tried other charcoal grills before and the Weber blows them away. It takes less charcoal and burns longer than the other grills I've tried. The hinged grates are very helpful for adding additional charcoal for longer cooks. My only complaints are the lid handle gets hot and there needs to be a better system to stow the lid when you open the grill. Other than that the grill is perfect.

A fantastic do-it-all grill!

When I left the world of propane cooking behind, this grill is where it all started-and I never looked back! I've been using my current grill for 10 years now...after the original one blew away in a tornado (I think that's the only thing that can destroy a Weber). I did find the lid for it a couple of hundred yards away, and it is now proudly mounted in my garage! When we moved back in to our newly built home, my in-laws bought me a new one as a house warming present and I use it for everything.....grilling, smoking, cooking, you name it. One you get the hang of the air control, it's easy to use. I make sure to use a chimney to start coals so I never get a lighter fluid tase. Honestly, I might give up my home stove before I give this thing up. I just bought it's big brother, and it's awesome as well. It's a classic for a reason....durable, flexible, efficient. Thanks, Weber!

Great grill buuut...

Loving the One Touch Gold after far too long on a gas grill. The ability to actually char a steak again has changed my eating habits (and waistline). Only downsides are that the material they use for the lid handle can get pretty warm AND it appears as if they've changed what the OTG comes with as my lid did not have a thermometer nor did it come with a tool hook handle. That was a bit of a letdown as I would have opted for the Silver had I known I was only paying $50 extra for the cleaning system.

Start

I have had other grills. I even have another brand gas grill. Noting can beat this one! I cooked Ribs for the first time and it held temp and they came out great. I am new to this but I can see many weekends enjoying it.

Best Charcoal Grill For Your Buck

I love this grill! I typically cook a full meal for 4-6 people and this grill is the perfect size for that, and then some. The One-Touch cleaning system and removable aluminum ash catcher makes cleaning a snitch. The thermometer is a nice touch and I also like the hooks on the handles and the one under the lid. The hinged grate is nice but not a must have. All this grill needs in a worktable, which you can buy as an add on and really isn't needed. Overall I am extremely happy with my Weber grill and believe it will last for years like my last three Webers.
