#1 in my books!!!

This is my second one. Wife backed over the first one... I've cooked everything you can think of on my Weber in the past 2 1/2 yrs. From Steaks, roasts, turkey, beer-in-the rear chicken, to mac-n-cheese, pizza, cake, you name it I've cooked it. I wouldn't trade I for anything. Don't buy a cheap imitation grill, you will be sorry if you do. The Weber 22" is by far the best there is for any style cooking your gonna do... Bar none!!!!

Original Kettle 22" features: Shocking Elimination

Weber was proud of the Indirect barbecuing method of the kettle style grills when I purchased my first 22" grill in 1976. I bought another one in 1993, and I still use it even though it's been banged around a lot. My wife and sons gave me a 22" Weber for Fathers Day 2015. UNFORTUNATELY the most important Weber "Original Kettle" feature that used to enable indirect cooking, the HINGED GRATE, is NO LONGER PROVIDED. NOW, you have to buy the PREMIUM model?? Terrible decision by Weber. To this day I remember reading the brochure with my original 1976 22" grill, about how the hinged grate permits you to add charcoal briquettes about hourly, by simply lifting the hinged openings on both sides. It was not PREMIUM. It was the original. How does the cook do it now??? I have lift the firey hot entire grate, meat and all, and set it on the ground, while I add coals....and then restore it onto the grill. Sadly, Weber decided the indirect cooking enabling feature is NOT a good idea for the regular 22 inch grill....and that was THE most important feature. Weber abandoned a most necessary feature for indirect cooking of duration duration of more than one hour. Now I must deal with this crazy, clumsy, and almost dangerous situation. It's bad enough that the 21st Century steel grates are flimsy compared to those of the late 20th Century, and the porcelain coating on the body is now incredibly thin compared to years past. Bring back the sturdy, hinged grates for ALL your kettle models. Don't sacrifice quality and abandon innovation like so many other American businesses have done.

Neither rain nor snow...

My parents had one for years so when I bought my home in 1983 the next day I bought the grill and still have it. The wife has suggested that we get a new one but that gets a flat-out no. Next I'll be traded in! I cook everything on the grill, even make it a smoker without any accessories. Smoking, direct or indirect, it's all good.

Fantastic Grill!

My new (about 1 and half year old) Original Kettle 22.5 compliments my 18 year old Genesis Silver gas grill. I use the kettle mostly for indirect cooking of steaks, chicken and ribs. The kettle also gets occasional use cooking paella. I use a moderate amount of coals and a lower the temp, along with an 18" paella pan and it comes out pretty close to using an expensive paella burner, but with a bit with the added benefit of flavor from the smoke. I recently purchased a 20" pan and expect it will also work well, but haven't tried yet.

By the way, I can't say enough good things about Weber service and support. Any support or replacement part is resolved by a simple call. I can't think of another company that provides this level of service.

If I had to do the purchase again, I'd probably spend the extra money and go with the Premium or Master-Touch for the ease of cleaning with the closed ash catcher, but this doesn't take away from the value of the Original Kettle.

Summary: Solidly built grill that will probably last decades, cooks great and is backed by the gold standard in customer support.

only charcoal

I have had gas and other types of grills, nothing cooks as consistently as this grill has for over 20 years. in my younger days I tried everything to get things as good as my father when he used his weber grill. First I bought the smaller kettle, still have and still use. I have had my 22.5 kettle for over 15 years and still love to use it. everyone wonders why my chicken is so good, it is the grill I tell them. I cook all kinds of dishes and meats. Love,Love,Love my Weber Kettle.

One of the top grills in my backyard.

As a food critic, I spend a lot of time in the kitchen and come summer, even more time cooking in my backyard. The Weber Kettle is my go-to daily grill for everything from hamburgers and steaks to low and slow briskets and ribs. The flavor profile it imparts on the food is vastly superior to any of my gas grills (which I only use for quick grilling or large parties) and other than smoking or very particular low and slow cuts of meat, it even gets more use than my Big Green Egg and my smokers. For the price, you really can't go wrong, and I would argue with anyone that the Weber Kettle is easily one of the top three charcoal barbecues on the market today.

My 22" Bar-B-Kettle is ready for another 30 years.

I purchased a 22" Bar-B-Kettle in 1985 and at first it saw cooking duties 3-4 times a week. This kettle grill was my main source for cooking outdoors. I have cooked everything imaginable on it, from the basics like hamburgers and hot dogs to steaks and more complicated things like spare ribs and prime rib, sometimes not always to perfection but still always good.

Starting in about 2002 my Weber saw the countryside as the wife and I used it when we traveled in the RV. It has cooked in every state east of the Mississippi except 1 (Louisiana). 2014 was it's last year on the road (maybe). It led a pretty rough life "on the road", some dings and enamel chipping from being bounced around but it never failed to perform.

In early spring 2015 my 30 year old got a maker over, almost a total restoration. A new exterior paint job, new handles to replace the wooden ones and a new cooking grid and one upgrade, a thermometer in the lid. I use it now about once a week and it is ready for it's next 30 years. Wish I could post some photos along with this review for everyone to see my "old faithful Weber".

Still going strong

I have had this grill for a little over 10 yrs now. It was the first grill I bought back in my twenties. The last few years since my children came along and we couldn't go out as much anymore I really got into grilling more complex food (that really isn't complex when you start paying attention) and learning the grill design, as in airflow, heat management, temp, time etc... The grill will function exactly as you tell it to when you really figure it out. It is a great design. I have gotten to the point of cooking so much on my grill that I bought a performer so I could have the work table, but dont be alarmed. The silver is right beside me with the sides going. My girls fill the chimney with paper and help season the veggies. They are just as apart of the experience with me as everything else. I guess before I get off subject to far, the Weber experience is more than just grilling great food. It's an experience to share with loved ones.

Great memories around the grill over the years.

I bought my first Weber grill back in the 80(s) while in the Army. I've had several over the years because I couldn't take the grills overseas or return with them because they had to be so clean to be shipped via Army Transportation. So when I got to where I was going I always bought a Weber from the PX.

I know my Italian neighbors especially loved it when I left and they inherited the one I had in Italy in the 90(s). They enjoyed it when I cooked out. It was a great way to find common ground and enjoy great food.

Now, I've passed the Weber loyalty to my sons who also have Weber Kettles. I imagine my grandchildren will have them as well. We cook several times a week on the Kettle and they're always out helping me.

Thanks Weber!
