Is your barbecue ready for summer entertaining?

If your barbecue has taken part in a winter hibernation period, it’s always a good idea to give it a quick once over – well before your guests arrive!

Here are some quick pointers for getting your barbecue ready for the upcoming summer entertaining season.

Check your gas bottle:

If your bottle is more than 10 years old, it’s time for a change! You can find the date of production on the collar of your gas bottle.

Does the bottle have enough gas? There is nothing worse than running out of gas halfway through your cook when you’re entertaining guests! Consider a second gas bottle in case of entertaining emergencies!

Check the gas fittings for leaks – each time you connect your barbecue to a gas bottle, you should check your fitting for gas leaks. You can do this by conducting a ‘soapy water test’ see here.

Clean and preen:

Use a dust brush to get rid of excess dust, spider webs and creepy crawlies on the outside of your barbecue. Scrape down the inside of your barbecues cook box and replace old drip trays. Be sure to replace any rusted or damaged components.

Use hot water with dishwashing detergent to wash down your lid, side tables and any other exterior components, or a Weber barbecue cleaner for more stubborn stains.

Burn it off:

For the final step, turn your barbecue on high and burn it off for 10 to 15 minutes to ensure it’s hygienic and food ready.
