How to Clean your Barbecue with a Weber Cold Cleaning Grill Brush
Regular cleaning helps your barbecue perform at its best and ensures every cook tastes great. Using a Weber Cold Cleaning Grill Brush is a safe and effective way to remove carbonised food residue from completely cool cooking grills.
Important: Use the Cold Cleaning Grill Brush only on fully cooled cooking grills.
You can complete this process either before preheating your barbecue for cooking or after your barbecue has cooled following your last cook.
What You'll Need
- Weber Cold Cleaning Grill Brush
- Damp cloth or paper towel
Step 1: Carbonise food residue
After you've finished cooking, leave the barbecue on high heat for 10 minutes to carbonise any remaining food residue. Setting a timer is a good reminder to return and switch the barbecue off.
If you didn't do this after your last cook, simply preheat your barbecue on high for 10 minutes, then switch it off and allow it to cool completely before cleaning.
Step 2: Allow the barbecue to cool
Once the barbecue has cooled completely, it's ready to clean.
Never use a Cold Cleaning Grill Brush on hot cooking grills.
Step 3: Brush the Cooking Grills
Using firm, even strokes, brush away the carbonised residue. Use the edge of the brush head to clean between the bars of the cooking grills, working from one side to the other. Any remaining ash can simply be brushed away.
Flip the cooking grills and repeat the process on the underside.
Step 4: Wipe Clean
If desired, wipe the cooking grills with a damp cloth or paper towel to remove any remaining fine ash before cooking.
Step 5: Cleaning Complete
Your cooking grills are now clean and ready for your next cook.
Handy Tips
- Carbonise residue after every cook. It is much easier to remove once it has turned to ash, before it has had time to harden.
- Let the brush do the work. Firm, even strokes are more effective than excessive pressure.
- Wash the Cold Cleaning Grill Brush occasionally in warm, soapy water and allow it to dry completely before storing.
- Check your brush regularly. Inspect tit for wear and replace it if the bristles become damaged or excessively worn. We recommend replacing your grill brush every 12 months.
- Every 4-5 cooks, deep clean your barbecue to remove excess grease and debris from inside the cookbox. This helps maintain airflow and reduce flare-ups.
- For stubborn build-up, soak the cooking grills in warm, soapy water for 15–20 minutes before brushing with a Cold Cleaning Grill Brush or nylon scourer.
- Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners that can damage porcelain-enamel surfaces.
- A little and often is best. A quick clean after each barbecue is much easier than tackling months of built-up grease.
Your cooking grills are now clean and ready for your next barbecue, helping to deliver better flavour, more even cooking, and reliable performance every time.
