Rotisserie cooking on a Weber Q

If you would like to cook large cuts of meat—like pork loins, whole chickens, turkeys, ducks, pork ribs, or even whole pineapple—a rotisserie attachment is a great investment. These delights can be cooked right on the cooking grill over indirect heat, but the advantage of using a rotisserie is that the food slowly bastes itself as it rotates whilst absorbing the flavours from the barbecue. The result is perfectly succulent and incredibly flavourful every time.

HOW TO SET UP YOUR Q FOR ROTISSERIE COOKING

Note maximum weights:
1st and 2nd Generation Weber Q models: 6 kg
3rd Generation Weber Q models: 4.5 kg

STEP 1:
Ensure that both cooking grills (not the hotplate) are inside the barbecue, then set up the Weber Q Convection tray.

STEP 2:
Place a Weber Q Convection tray in a horizontal position in the centre of your Q cooking grill. If you wish to cook chopped vegetables underneath the rotisserie meat, place a Q Roasting trivet on top of the convection tray.

STEP 3:
Place the unfolded rotisserie shield onto the barbecue.

STEP 4:
Slide the motor onto the shield holder on the left-hand side. If you have a handle guard, attach it to the lid handle.

STEP 5:
Preheat the barbecue with the recommended settings below.

STEP 6:
Once preheated, open the lid and mount the rotisserie shaft (with food preloaded) into the motor and onto the shield cutouts. Plug in and turn on the rotisserie, then confirm it is spinning before closing the lid.

RECOMMENDED PREHEAT AND COOK SETTINGS

2023 Weber Q

We recommend most roasting be done at indirect medium heat (190°C - 230°C). Indirect high heat is generally only needed to crackle a pork roast.

3rd Generation Q models (released in 2023 or later)

2Nd Genration Q 2

HOT TIPS

  • To ensure that the meat cooks evenly, use kitchen twine to truss it into a compact, uniform shape.
  • Once the food is secured onto the spit, make sure that it is centred as evenly as possible on the rod, adjusting the forks as needed. This will put less strain on the motor.
  • Always preheat the barbecue first.
  • When you are ready to cook, set the spit in place, turn the motor on, and ensure the rotisserie is spinning smoothly.
  • Instant read meat thermometers are handy for checking the doneness of the meat when using a rotisserie. Pause the motor before probing the meat.
