Hear From Other Grillers

Igniter Kit is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 279.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Did the job, eventually... First the good news: the replacement ignition system works properly and my old grill is again fully functional. But... Things did not go entirely smoothly. The big issue is what a number of other reviewers have mentioned: the wires with the new igniter are too short to connect to the battery holder unit in the model of grill I possess. From the illustrations in the installation instructions it looks to me that some time over the years Weber has repositioned the battery holder from the right to the left side of the grill. With the battery holder on the left the wires should be fine, but with the battery holder on the right (like on my old grill) not so fine. I ended up having to do what some other reviewers mention, namely, reposition the battery holder (which involved drilling a hole or two in the grill legs) to a spot where the wires supplied with the new igniter will reach. With that adjustment, all is fine. But of course it should go without saying that the grill owner shouldn't be asked to reconfigure the placement of the igniter unit. BUT... There might be some hidden good news in this story. I strongly surmise that the reason an igniter unit stops working after years of faithful service is located entirely in the battery holder unit. I suspect that there are some electronics in that unit that generate the high voltage to provide the ignition spark, and that it's those electronic components that stop working after years of exposure to summer heat and winter cold. If this is correct, it means I never had to replace the other parts of the kit, namely, the wires, push button, and the sparking unit. Unfortunately, I didn't think of this possibility until it was too late -- I had already followed the installation instructions and removed the whole ignition system. So I don't know if my theory is correct. So bottom line: my suggestion to anyone who has a failing ignition spark system is to: 1) get Weber's ignition replacement kit, but 2) first try replacing ONLY the battery holder unit. Only if that doesn't fix things go ahead and replace all the other bits (wires, push button, sparking unit). That's my dos centavos.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Product Shipped Poorly The kit corrected the starter problem with my grill. HOWEVER, the kit was not shipped in a rigid container and arrived at my house in a very beat up condition. Please do not cut corners on shipping your products!
