Grill Planning For Memorial Day

Memorial Day is here.  Although I’ve been grilling since...well, last Memorial Day, there are a few things I do to prep for the weekend.

Plan a party.  Here in the midwest, it is finally that time of year where the sun goes down late, the mercury stays way above freezing, and the only place to be is outside.  Memorial Day is the kick off to summer.  It is best to welcome it in with friends.

Stock up on fuel.  This is a great time to buy charcoal.  As the “unofficial” kick-off to grilling season, Memorial Day is the time to buy fuel for your grill.  Buying one bag?  Buy four.  I know I will.

Clean your grills.  Spring time is grill cleaning time.  Whether your grills have been in use all winter, or are just now coming out of hibernation, make sure everything is in tip-top shape for the big day.

Remember the real reason for the day.  Memorial Day is a time for remembrance.  I’m fortunate to have family and friends who have served the United States military.  While it’s great to “grill out,” this is a day to spend with those you love and respect.  Yes, we are having a party, but is not for us.  It is for those who gave the ultimate sacrifice and for those who continue to keep us safe. Don’t forget the real reason for the day.

Happy Memorial Day!
