For date nights at home, I typically grill. It’s easy, there’s less cleanup in the kitchen and we can enjoy the outdoors while the food is cooking. Until recently though, I kept the outdoor cooking to the main course and maybe an appetizer. Then I discovered a simple recipe that changed my date night routine forever!
Grilled pound cake and strawberries; It’s such a simple and outstanding way to end off the culinary adventure of date nights! Grilling the strawberries makes them sweeter and juicier. The caramelization of the sugars in the pound cake intensifies the flavor. After you top them with whipped cream, chocolate sauce, or whatever else you like, you will never look for another date night dessert again!
- Preheat your grill for 15 minutes and brush the cooking grates clean. You don’t want your dessert tasting like your dinner!
- Soak some wooden skewers in water for 30 minutes and thread the strawberries onto the skewers. Unsoaked skewers can catch fire and ruin your dessert!
- Set your grill to medium high heat (350°-400°F) and grill the slices of pound cake and strawberries for 1 minute per side, turning once.
- Remove the strawberries and cake from the grill, top with chocolate syrup, whipped cream, or any other decadent topping and enjoy!
