Intern Program: 

  • Attend and participate in planned events/activities during the summer  
  • Define and complete a series of goals (assigned by the department)  
  • Create, execute and measure a project or projects 
  • Develop a presentation at the conclusion of the internship based on learnings from the summer 

Summary of Responsibilities:  

The intern will provide design engineering support for assigned product development projects.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • Generates and refines design solutions to identified product requirements, formalize designs with the use of CAD tools.   
  • Ensures that products are designed to meet all performance specifications and regulatory requirements.    
  • Performs basic IP searches. 
  • Provides design support across projects and product categories. 
  • Supports creation of needed prototypes and models to validate designs, hands on at times. 
  • Creates and maintains specifications and project documentation as needed. 
  • Background research on new ideas and concepts. 

Metrics: Success for the Intern will result in:  

  • Background research on new ideas and concepts 
  • Identifying and accomplishing 1 personal goal and 2-3 business goals. 
  • A final presentation in front of the appropriate team. 
  • A written report on all IP searches including current patents similar to our proposed products 
  • A written report on cooking performance variations within Weber grill lines
  • Exposure to and utilization of Weber’s manufacturing processes and design practices through part design, analysis, and iteration on various projects will vastly expand the skillset of the intern engineer.   

Required Skills and Credentials:  

  • Mechanical Engineering background (Enrolled in 4 year program for B.S. Mech Eng)  
  • Solid modeling experience preferred 
  • Microsoft Office 
  • Hands on experience in machining, joining, and fabrication preferred 

Requested Schedule/Work Hours: 

Standard: Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm (hour unpaid lunch)
