Fabrication Technician

3rd Shift (10:00 pm - 6:30 am)

Summary Responsible for the set-up, start-up and operation of one or more of the following: Automatic Press lines, Draw lines or Secondary Operations. Works individually or by giving technical support to a team of employees.

 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following, other duties may be assigned

 - Works from Supervisors instructions and production schedules to perform and coordinate set-ups and die changes.

- Set up a variety of drawing, forming and stamping dies into punch presses and assists in set-ups as necessary. Adjusts tooling and processes. Troubleshoots problems and requests assistance from Tool & Die, Maintenance or other support functions.

- Responds quickly to minimize downtime. Reports problems in a timely manner and elevates

   issues.

- Approves 1st piece samples and arranges for QA approvals.

- Performs periodic quality audits, tests and inspections. Records results and fills out control

   charts. Instructs operators in proper inspection methods.

- Gathers production data and completes production reports. Reviews scheduled run quantities and insures accurate and timely production reporting.

- Monitors raw material levels and performs cycle counts to maintain accurate inventory.

- Recommends improvements to equipment, tooling and processes. Documents changes.

- Instructs operators in the safe and efficient operation of equipment and monitors their activities.

- Performs P.M.’s on welders, presses and related equipment as assigned. Monitors operator assigned P.M.’s and insures that scheduled maintenance is completed.

 - Confers with Production Supervisor to resolve quality, material or operational issues.

 - Performs other duties as assigned

Education and/or Experience                                                  

High School Diploma or equivalent and two years related metal fabrication/die setting experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  Language Skills                                                    

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. 

 Mathematical Skills 

Basic math skills through decimals and fraction (add, subtract, multiply and divide).  Must be able to read precision measuring instruments.

                             

 Reasoning Ability   

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete and abstract variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
