Before you start
Winter has its own barbecue rules. Here are some very useful set up tips to start your barbecue with the right foot.
Choose the right spot
Move your barbecue close to the house, but avoid overhangs, porches and everything that could present a fire hazard.
Dress to barbecue
Wrap up warm, but avoid long scarves and dangling tassels. Choose a tight jacket and wear barbecue gloves rather than woollen mittens. We recommend the Weber Premium Gloves.
Light the area
Night is falling rapidly in winter. Keep an outdoor lamp or torch within reach.

Check your ash catcher or grease management system and remove all water or ice from inside it.
With the cold your BBQ will need more time to heat up and may require more gas or charcoal. Start earlier, check you have enough fuel, and keep spare canisters or briquettes on the side.
Keep the lid down as much as possible to avoid the heat escaping. Only open it against the wind.

When barbecuing, every steps of the process is important for a delightful experience. Over the winter, this is especially true. Here are some seasonal tips to finish up your barbecue like a pro.
Cooking time will be slightly longer as well. If the temperature is below 0°C, calculate 20% more cooking time.
Side dishes, sauce and even oil don’t like the cold. Keep them inside or only bring them out at the very last moment.
