How My Family Lost 600 pounds

How My Family Lost 600 pounds

It’s no secret how much I love grilling and all things Weber. However, what many of you may not know is that I credit grilling with helping to keep my family and I healthy.

A few years ago my family and I lost 600 pounds collectively. We decided as a group that it was important for us to get our health in order and change our lifestyle.

Many people close to us ask how we lost all the weight. There are many factors that went into our weight loss, including cutting out refined sugars, changing to whole wheat flour products instead of white flour, exercise, and cutting out going out to eat and ordering in as much as possible.

Once we did that we realized that we had to start getting creative with what we ate since we were making more food at home. We started to grill more meals on our Weber and quickly realized that the healthier meals we were grilling were more enjoyable than eating out. You’d be surprised how much better for you a whole wheat grilled pizza is compared to the pizza you order from down the street.

The best part was that we didn’t sacrifice any taste or flavor. The flavor our grill imparted all our meals with was so much better than anything we could have had at a restaurant.

Fast forward a few years, and my family and I have kept the weight off and continue to grill on our Weber grills regularly. That is why it is so easy for me to say to people that a Weber grill is a life changing product.  I really mean it! Hopefully this week, you will get outside and grill your next healthy (and delicious!) meal.

Hi Kevin,

What a great story. My wife and I exercise regularly and after going to exercise from work we get home later, so it can be difficult to not eat out.

We just bought our first Weber, the Spirit E-210 with the Gourmet BBQ System. We are really looking forward to using it, not only will it be convenient with gas, but with the inserts like the wok and griddle we can make easy, healthy meals. This is a great grill. What a difference compared to others we have owned before.

Way to go, Kevin! I lost 80 lbs myself a long time ago. I love grilling/smoking on my Weber products also. I use charcoal because it takes longer, and forces me to slow down and plan. I guess it's sort of like therapy! lol

I'm excited for the decision you and your family made to get your health in order by changing your lifestyle, Kevin!

Hi Mike,

Thank you for your kind words and encouragement. I am glad to see you have done the same. Great job and keep it up!

I love charcoal for the same reason. It forces you to slow down, breathe, and enjoy the experience.

Happy Grilling!

Kevin,

I had a heart attack three years ago this month. I was at 243 at the time. Even though I had some ups and downs since then, I'm back to grilling and holding at 193. I found a lot of weight variation, down to 168 at one time, but I'd like to maintain at 185. I'll get my goal, exercising daily and grilling on my eight Weber grills almost daily!

Hi Gary,

Wow. Your story is so inspirational. Thank you for sharing. Just like yourself, I have fluctuated too. Grilling and exercising does make it easier though. Keep up the good work and enjoy your eight awesome Weber grills.

Happy Grilling!

Kevin-
Wow, would never have guessed after our grill fest, that you had ever been overweight. Congrats on maintaining a delicious healthy lifestyle for both you and the family. Thanks also for giving me the tools to grill for my family, have since smoked ribs and our Thanksgiving turkey, and use the gas grill as my primary kitchen. In fact, just picked up another tank yesterday and am trying the recipe of the week tonight! Miss you guys a lot, you are an inspiration.
