Many do not understand the cost of quality. When shopping for a grill, higher quality components are reqiured to make higher quality grills. The majority of gas grills are not protected from the elements and bad weather. In addition, many complaints about rust and deterioration are from individials in extreme locations such as coastal areas with high salt exposure.
It is easy to state that this grill is not a good value, when in fact it is a good value over time. One must evaluate what material are used in construction and how long these materials will stand up to weather and other environmental issues. Stainless steel lasts longer than aluminum that last longer than cast iron. Weber has manufacture this grill to last 10 years or more! Other grills have an expected life of 3-5 years. Doing the math, this model cost about $200 per year to own (not included LP Gas). Compare this to other companies and a $1,000 competitor that lasts only 3-5 years will cost $200 -$300 a year.
My first steak on this grill was perfect. The sear center worked as specified. Heat was uniform and controlable. Clean up was quick and easy with removable flavor bars and drip tray.
My second use was with a rotissorie chicken. The infrared burner worked perfectly and temperature control was flawless.
My third experience was with Burgers. Perfect results.
I have always been under the impression that grill flavor can only come from charcoal fire. I was wrong. Flavor comes from proper carmalization of the fats from the meat. Added flavor comes from flavored smoke from hardwoods. Improper cooking techniques and lack of temperature control will ruin the grilling experience. Weber standardizes grilling to make an amatuer into a pro-griller.
My only bad experience was the fact that my rotissorie motor did not work out of the box. The great news is that the mounts for rotissorie motors appears to be standardized. My old motor from another brand fit perfectly on this new grill.
This grill is worth the price. If you need to economize, buy a model with less features. Don't compromize on the following: Stainless steel grates, burners and flavor bars. These are the parts that make a grill last. Check out the replacement cost for these parts alone and you can see how much this adds to the cost of a quality grill.

Brilliant and not
Out of the box, this grill is brilliant. It is so obvious that Weber gets tons of input from real world grillers. Feature for feature, I don't think there is anything else out there like it. From big things to tiny ones, it's kind of like buying a Mac computer or a BMW: somebody sweat every single detail.
That's the good news.
The bad news is that in less than one year, we have replaced virtually every key component on this grill. Weber customer service is legendary but what a pain to have to basically rebuild the unit. Having gone thru that hassle, the fixed grill almost sings to me. It is such a joy to work with.
Bottom line, we had tons of quality issues. Weber took care of all of them and the end result is so good that if I had it to do all over again, I would.
Buy this grill and cooking will never be the same again for you.
