You cannot go wrong with any Weber product

I tend to not write reviews about products but when it comes to Weber products, how can I not? I have been a Weber fan for many years now and I have not been disappointed to say the least. I love when people come over and see the innovative features this grill has and the flavor of the food. I always get a happy crowd and personally it makes me happy that I made a great meal. I have come to learn that buying quality is worth it. When you buy cheap, you buy twice. No better way to put it. I always look at products with a 10 year horizon; with Weber you know you will easily get 10 years from any of there products. Happy grilling. By the way, I also own a Genesis EP 310, special edition. I love having dual grills.

Performer is a grilling machine

Like many, I have been through gas, propane grills and a few smokers, but this Weber Performer is terrific. It's my first too. I really did give Weber much thought over the years (being dad's kind of charcoal grill) and not thinking it would impress me. Boy, I was wrong. It one grilling I see the difference in how quality components impact the cook.

Yep, it assembled pretty easily. It took me a couple of hours because I don't like to nick or scratch things. I also worry about breaking flimsy parts in the process. As a husband and parent, many of you know how that goes when it comes to DIY projects. It can be a hassle and the slightest mistake stops the entire process and all that is left is frustration. Not with this grill. It all went together perfectly and it's very sturdy and components are "fitted" nicely. No gaps, missing pieces, odd joints, flimsy connections. Solid. Of course, the kettle, lid, grate, grill, folding table are sturdy. That surprised and impressed me.

First cook, a handful of hot dogs, Italian sausages, steak to feed the four of us. One reservation I had about Weber kettle grills is the limited area to cook on. I'm pleasantly surprised I grilled these foods and there was plenty of room to grill for 2 or 4 more people--even with indirect grilling methods. I love it that the kettle controls cooking temps so much better than my bigger (but cheaply made barrel style) Brinkmann charcoal grill with the offset fire box for smoking. That grill only lasted 4 years with care--$200 bucks and its toast. The Weber Performer is smaller, but better built, comes with a 10 year warranty and I believe with that with my OCD behavior and care, it will last 15 or 20 years. I got the nice cover and it can live in the shed in the winter. Yes, cleanup is a breeze. I love the setup and the removable ash can. I did use a Sharpie marker on the ash lever so I know when it is a quarter open or fully open during grill sessions. That was a great Internet tip before starting this adventure. Glad I did it.

So, it's a great little grill that's very sturdy, versatile, portable, attractive, and most of all cooks very evenly, consistently, keeping its heat and provides this cook confidence that the food is going to be perfect and delicious.

I took some pics from the first grill. I thought it might be useful to show how much space was still available for more food, but I don't see the option to upload my pics. Oh well. You'll see for yourself. I no longer have doubts that there is ample room to cook for 8 people.

Great grill

I think the pot belly Webers are the only way to grill...much better flavor than what you get with gas and much more fun to grill with. You have total control with a Weber once you develop your technique. Here's my tip: If the coals are too hot put the food on the perimeter and move it in towards the middle as the coals die down...
Anyway I have had mine for 2 years and highly recommend the custom cover to keep it nice. Also recommend the little half moon charcoal holders , for me a must have. Here they are: http://store.weber.com/accessories/category/cook/1286
These grills are durable, I gave mine a good cleaning yesterday for the July 4 cookout. It gets used heavily but with a little scrubbing it comes back like new...no rust either. Weber or nothing for me.

Happy with this grill

We have had a gas grill for a few years. It was time for a new grill last week and I wanted to return to a Weber kettle grill. I started grilling with one over 40 years ago. I find it the most versatile grill I have ever used. This Proformer 22" is a outstanding compacted grill. We have limited space in the area we wanted to put the grill. The lift up prep table is large enough to hold everything I need while grilling. It came with the gourmet system grate which I am very pleased with. It is wonderful to be able to add charcoal with out having to left out the he whole grate. I have order two of the bbq system accessories already. We have used it almost every day from the day we got it. The ash management system and large ash can are out standing. It has been about 10 years sense I had and use a Weber charcoal kettle. It is good to be back. The gourmet system accessories are new to me but I am sure I will use most of them over time. I highly recommend this grill.

A very happy medium

We decided on a Weber kettle - but which to get? This is the grill we chose because it had the features we wanted while being the most cost-effective option. This grill set-up uses the same kettle as all other 22.5 Webers. At first, we were planning on the One-Touch Gold 22.5, but were disappointed that it didn't come with the lid holder and knew a prep surface would be necessary. The One-Touch is $75 less than the Performer Silver. Is it worth that much more for a small table, a shelf, and the lid holder? In the end, I think it is. This grill gives you many of the features of the pricier Performers with the footprint of the One-Touches thanks to a fold-away table.
1. The metal table is handy and wholly heat-proof. It cleans up easily and, being steel, magnets work (nice for our timer and grill light).
2. The hooks, as noted by other reviewers, are basically useless with most tools - we replaced them within two weeks.
3. The ash-cleaner is nice and it gets most of the ash - some ash falls outside the limits of what the baffles can remove (no big deal, though). As a tip, before using, take out the grates and adjust the ash cleaner's baffles to full open, half open, 1/4 open, and closed while marking the handle position with a pen - the range of motion for the baffles is rather large, but most of that range is full open. Weber should mark these for us, in my opinion, since you cannot easily tell how open the baffles are when the grill is in-use.
4. The grill is on two wheels and two locking casters. They prefer a hard, even surface and don't do well with traipsing through the grass (we grill on the lawn). The wheels and casters are plastic, so no major issue with ground contact & rust.

Spring for the chimney starter and the coal baskets, too. Very handy.

First in every way

I was finally able to break-in my Weber last evening after the weather broke. This model certainly lives-up to it's name. The size is perfect, it's heavy-duty where it counts, and most-of-all, this grill is "controllable". No more flare-ups to deal with and I can snuff the fire out afterward which allows me to save on charcoal.

Minor drawbacks would be that...1) the tool hanging fixtures on the front of the grill are not suitable for my grilling tools, 2) the location(s) chosen to hinge the cooking grid, and 3) the offset (right) levers on the one-touch controls.

I did, however, find the tool hanging fixtures ideal for hanging the cooking grid on when needed.

The results last night were phenomenal.....

Amazing!

I made the switch from gas to charcoal. I researched for nearly six months for the perfect grill. I looked at them all, from the $49 portable to the $1200 beast! This grill peaked my interest. At first I thought it was a little pricey, but after comparing quality, it was well worth it. Plus, it went together in a snap, an important feature for anyone.
