How is your damper assembly attached?

Hex-drive system

Hex-drive system

Prior to 2000, all damper blade assemblies used a hex-drive system, shown above. The damper handle is inserted through a hole in the hex nut, and the thumbscrew is tightened to hold it in place. This can be seen by looking at the underside of the bowl. If your grill has an enclosed ash-catcher, remove it to view the hex drive. This style is NOT interchangeable with the H-drive system.

In the year 2000, the One-Touch Silver was still manufactured with the hex-drive system. The One-Touch Gold, One-Touch Platinum and the Performer grills were changed to the H-drive system for damper blade assemblies shown above. The damper handle is inserted through a stainless steel H-washer, and twists to lock in place. This can be seen by looking at the underside of the bowl. If your grill has an enclosed ash-catcher, remove it to view the H-drive. This style is NOT interchangeable with the hex-drive system.
